Chapter 1: Understanding the Advantages of Time Management
In this chapter, we share our approach to helping students see, feel, and manage time in a more intentional way. At the heart of our program is the idea that real motivation starts when students can imagine the benefits of being “done”—finishing their work, meeting responsibilities, and still having time for the things they enjoy. These benefits look different for every student: maybe it’s having parents stop nagging, more time to watch their favorite shows, building trust with others, or simply avoiding last-minute stress. By helping students connect with what they value, we create a path for meaningful and lasting change.
Time Management Informal Assessment and Lesson 1: Advantages of Time Management

Informal Assessment Section A-F
This informal tool helps identify specific time awareness challenges that may impact a student’s ability to plan, organize, and manage tasks. It explores key aspects such as future thinking, internal sense of time, and time estimation skills—offering valuable insight to guide targeted interventions.

Activity 1: Advantages of Successfully Managing Time
In this lesson, students start to imagine what life could look like when time feels more manageable. By visualizing real changes—like getting schoolwork done on time, feeling less stressed, and having more free time—they begin to see why learning time management strategies really matters. It’s all about helping them feel more in control and excited about what’s possible.

Activity 2: Goal Setting
In this activity, students take the next step by turning their favorite “future benefits” into meaningful, personal goals. After choosing one to three statements from the Advantages of Successfully Managing Time chart that matter most to them, they’ll reflect on why those goals are important. To make it even more real, they’ll create a quick sketch for each one—helping them picture what success will actually look like. With a student example and dedicated goal-setting pages included, this activity makes it easy to connect time management skills to what students truly care about.
